Home Depot TECHSHED SENIOR UX DESIGNER in San Mateo, California

POSITION PURPOSE

The Home Depot Techshed User Experience Team is looking for passionate and dynamic UX professionals to research, design, measure, & create the next generation experiences for consumers, in-store and internal associate facing applications and websites. The purpose of the Techshed Sr. UX designer is to own all aspects of any project/product to deliver best UX. They will be responsible for the whole project s execution and success. At any given time, they will be assigned to one major and one small projects.

Through a deep understanding of our target users, the Techshed UX team will enhance the usability, create workflow efficiencies, and delight our users through the enablement of intuitive cross channel technology solutions.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

25%- Collaborate with product managers and other UX team members during discovery phases to understand user, product and company goals. Provide expertise on UX design development to meet user needs in a timely and cost-effective manner while ensuring the right things get done as per the governance process.

20%- Figure out execution strategy (design effort, feedback/research activities, prototype requirements). Work with UX researcher and prototyper to create UX design project plans with milestones. Publish project plans, progress, dependencies or blockers with all stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle

40%- Create task flows, low fidelity mockups, high-fidelity mockups & interactive prototypes for usability studies, executive presentations etc. Work with developers to make sure designs are implemented as per the specs and create UI assets as necessary

15%- Work with UX researcher to plan and conduct user research, usability studies and make necessary design updates based on findings

NATURE AND SCOPE

This position typically reports to a UX Design Manager.

This position has no Direct Reports

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Additional Environmental Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years (or 3 yrs. + Masters) of demonstrable experience as a UX Designer, Interaction Designer, UX Architect, and/or Information Architect.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deliverables will include but are not limited to: mental models, user journeys, personas, scenarios, low & high fidelity prototypes, wireframes.

-Understanding and experience of UX within an Agile Development Process

-Ability to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data and present findings and recommendations.

-Experience producing annotated wireframes, & clickable prototypes.

  • Comfortable communicating with software developers, product owners, and marketing professionals

-Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional teams; consistently demonstrating effective management of shifting priorities, delivering thorough work products, and meeting project deadlines

  • Solid experience employing a variety of user-centered iterative design methodologies and objective evaluation techniques (e.g., requirements visualization, design studio, contextual inquiry, rapid contextual design, user journey mapping.)

-Effective communicator that can influence through well thought out designs and research, not through authority.

-Solid proficiency with a variety of rapid prototyping and visualization tools (e.g., Sketch, Axure, iRise, Balsamiq, Omnigraffle, Visio, Adobe CC, UXPin, etc.), with at least a high-level understanding of how HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can be used for prototyping purposes.

  • Experience participating and facilitating user research and usability.

-Background on mobile app design

-Understanding of native app UX design systems (Material Design, iOS 9 and 10)

-Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator or any other visual design tool

-Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS

-Degree in Engineering, Psychology, Industrial Design, Computer Science, Interaction Design, HCI or other related technology degree or equivalent work experience
