POSITION PURPOSE

The Shop Tech II is responsible for the repair and maintenance of machines in the rental fleet, including earthmoving, aerial, landscaping, and material handling equipment. Work ranges in scope from general repairs and maintenance, up to more complex repairs on hydraulic and electrical systems and diesel engines.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs advanced electrical system troubleshooting and repairs

  • Performs diesel engine troubleshooting and repairs

  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs on small engines, including fuel systems, oil and air filtration systems, ignition systems, etc.

  • Performs maintenance and repairs on trailers

  • Makes welding repairs to equipment and trailers

  • Performs aerial lift inspections according to required checklist

  • Documents all work performed on tablet technology, including completion of work orders to capture parts usage and labor, performing parts inventory counts, etc.

  • Checks GPS units on equipment and ensures they are activated and properly checking-in and troubleshoots with IT team as needed.

  • Follows shop safety protocol, including proper storage of supplies and fuel, proper disposal of waste oils and fluids, and proper lifting and moving of materials and equipment.

  • Safely operates forklift to load, unload, and move equipment and materials in the shop and yard.

NATURE AND SCOPE

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Working conditions include working in the outdoors, including in extreme temperatures; working around dirt, grease, fumes, oils, and chemicals; prolonged exposure to loud noises from engines, compressors, power tools, and equipment. Working conditions include significant physical demands such as lifting (up to 80 lbs) from the waist, lifting from the shoulder, prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, crawling underneath equipment, climbing on top of equipment, reaching and stretching. Environment will require repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements, including skilled work with fingers. Occasionally, employee will be required to work at heights. Must complete a drug screen and the Essential Job Functions Form prior to working.

Travel:

Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.

Additional Environmental Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:

High School Diploma or GED, Tech School or OEM Training, or equivalent experience

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 1 years

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely lift 80 lbs minimum

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, Tech School or OEM Training, or equivalent experience

  • 3-5 years of experience with general maintenance of construction-related lines of equipment

  • Experience and ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and diesel engines

  • Ability to read and understand detailed schematics (electrical and hydraulic) in order to determine source of mechanical failure

  • Ability to read technical and service manuals

  • Experience with welding, including repair and fabrication, and use of proper materials

  • Competent in the use of tablet and computer technology to document service work

  • Ability to consistently and accurately document work performed

  • Familiarity with inventory management

  • Good communication skills and organization skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently

  • Ability to work independently

  • Experience, ability and desire to provide superior customer service

  • Experience in equipment rental industry preferred

  • Landscape/rental/construction background preferred

  • Valid driver’s license

POSITION TYPE/HOURS OF WORK

Position is full-time, requiring a minimum or 40 hours per week, and occasionally requires working extended hours. While the position is based out of a shop location and spends the majority of its time working at the shop, some work is performed in the field, including store locations and customer job sites.
