The Fleet Manager is responsible for all delivery operations from the distribution center completed by private fleet and third party carriers. Duties include, but are not limited to: private fleet operations and maintenance, driver supervision, routing system management, all DOT and other applicable federal/state law compliance, and measurement and reporting of delivery key performance indicators for the distribution center.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
50% - Management of Local Delivery Drivers: Managing daily operations (driver start-up meetings, driver check-in process, driver ride-alongs), driver productivity, associate feedback/coaching, planning activities (reviewing volume forecasts, building daily delivery routes), driver hiring/firing/discipline/pay administration
10% - Carrier Relations: Managing relationships with third party carriers and providers; overseeing all delivery activity from the distribution center with these agents
10% - Customer Service: Supporting delivery operations by answering questions from internal teams (sales, customer service) and customers
10% - Delivery Operations Compliance: Ensuring delivery operations are compliant with federal, state and company requirements (driver qualification files, pre/post inspections, vehicle safety, internal SOPs) and coaching associates on compliance requirements
10% - Asset Management: Managing delivery trucks and assets (truck inventory, truck maintenance, cleanliness and safety
10% - Results Management: Management of financial and operational metrics
NATURE AND SCOPE
This position reports to the General Manager.
This position has up to 5 direct reports.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 4 years
Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
Bachelor's degree preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams
Ability to draw accurate conclusions from financial documentation
Ability to negotiate, handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances with both internal and external customers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience in Transportation or Logistics Management Experience in managing drivers and commercial vehicles Expertise in DOT regulations for commercial vehicles Knowledge in routing systems
