Home Depot The Home Depot PRO Manager of Meeting and Events in Jacksonville, Florida

This position owns the strategy and execution of our world-class meetings and events, as well as our robust tradeshow exhibitions, which range from large national shows to a large volume of small local and regional shows. Responsible for over $15M budget annually. Plans, executes and manages work, including request for proposal, contract negotiation, site selection, contractor management, logistics and budget management.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manages all aspects of meeting and event logistics including site selection, audio/visual and production, decor, online and onsite registration, transportation, food and beverage. Provides on-site management of all logistics throughout duration of event.

  • Creates budgets for assigned meetings and events and is accountable for staying within those budgets through forecasting.

  • Negotiates volume pricing with hotels, ground transportation, vendors and all third parties; signs hotel contracts.

  • Communicates all information to hotels and internal customers in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Conduct post-meeting follow-up and assessment through client survey.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Typically reports to Sr Manager, Events Management

No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the technical leadership of a project work team: may select team members and assess capabilities, provide technical training, provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives, evaluate program or project performance.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

ENVIRONMENT:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

TRAVEL:

Typically requires overnight travel between 25% and 50% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 5 years

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field with Certified in Exhibition Management CEM or Certified Trade Show Marketer CTSM a plus

  • Five to seven years of professional event and trade show management experience, including multi-million dollar budgeted events and large volume tradeshow execution

  • Ability to translate business objectives into event and trade show strategies

  • Ability to create memorable brand experiences through a deep understanding of audiences and customers

  • Creative problem-solver, passionate about excellence and energized by innovation

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a willingness to roll up his/her sleeves

  • Effectively manages cross-functionally including 3 rd -party contractors, leveraging multiple perspectives and aligning to sometimes conflicting goals to develop cohesive and effective plans

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to work across all levels within an organization, including company executives and officers

  • Highly skilled negotiator, with an thorough understanding of financial principles

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage and measure the value (ROI and ROO) of both event and trade show efforts

  • Advanced Microsoft software skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Highly skilled negotiator and logistics manager. Must be able to make decisions and work autonomously.

  • Must drive a sense of urgency and accuracy. Must be customer-driven and able to interface with associates on all levels, both Officers and store associates, and have a clear understanding of The Home Depot values and culture.

  • Excellent understanding of financial management principles including budgeting.

  • Advanced PC skills including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access and MS Project.

  • Ability to learn new computer software as needed to improve presentations/meetings/events.
