POSITION PURPOSE

BlackLocus is an innovation lab operating within The Home Depot, the top home improvement retailer in the world. BlackLocus is contributing to this initiative by providing analytical tools to optimize and automate pricing, assortment, and product info by applying machine learning and revenue management techniques.

BlackLocus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the competitive data team. You should be a creative and thoughtful engineer who enjoys telemetry, graphs, solid architecture designs, and distributed systems. You should be excited by finding solutions to constantly changing problems. The Senior Software Engineer will collaborate with other engineers and Product Managers to ensure product evolution and stability. The person who fills this position should be one who wants to grow and help others grow also.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

75% - Delivery & Execution

Write clean, maintainable, high-quality code.

Collaborate to establish best practices across our development projects.

Help take new products from prototype to deployment.

Solve problems with production systems and automate operations as much as possible.

Stay current with advancements in technology and advocate for the appropriate use of those advancements in our own stack.

25% - Mentoring

Mentors other engineers via design and code review

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

8+ years experience as a Software Engineer

Experience working in multiple languages/frameworks

Experience collaborating with a diverse range of people and perspectives

Excellence in both your craft and communication

Experience working with graphs and telemetry

Intimate knowledge and experience with distributed systems

Deep understanding of networks and web traffic

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a PhD program in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 6 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

You are experienced with either Java, Python, Golang, or JavaScript as your preferred language.

You have had to deal with some of the quirks of ElasticSearch.

You care deeply about the details while keeping the big picture in mind.

You enjoy developing creative solutions to challenging problems in a self-directed, lean environment.
