Home Depot Senior Python Developer in Atlanta, Georgia

The Sr. Python Developer is responsible for joining an automation team and contributing to the automation design, development, and overall product lifecycle for a portfolio of automation solutions. The development process is highly collaborative. Sr. Python Developer are expected to work collaboratively as they work through user stories and support products as they evolve. In addition, Sr. Python Developers may be involved in product configuration, performance tuning and testing as well as production monitoring.

The Sr. Python Developer is responsible for gaining a deep understanding of internal processes/operations and transforming this knowledge into automated solutions. This role may be an internal “client facing” role and the Sr. Python Developer must be able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Additionally, he/she will be working with partner teams on requirements gathering and solution articulation. The Sr. Python Developer will provide documentation and training to the broader team on solutions developed. The Sr. Python Developer needs to be open to the varying ways that functions can be automated (python), but also recognize when automation is not the best course of action.

As a Sr. Python Developer, you will be a core player on the online merchandising automation team and are expected to build and grow the skillsets of the more junior Engineers.


  • 30% Define, plan and implement solutions on assigned moderately complex projects.

  • 25% Take business requirements and develop the total technical design on moderately complex projects and ensure proper usage as part of the design efforts in building a system to be put into production.

  • 20% Conduct appropriate test reviews for assigned projects and present to architecture review boards as necessary.

  • 15% Promote and follow the established processes, policies, standards and procedures to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies and standards.

  • 10% Provide technical direction to associate developers, developers and contractors.

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

Bachelors Degree required

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 3 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:


  • 3 years of relevant work experience

  • Proficient in writing SQL queries against a relational database

  • Proficient in a version control system (preferably Git)

  • Experience in a front‐end technology and framework such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, ReactJS, and JQuery

  • Experience in a Linux or Unix based environment

  • Experience in a CI/CD toolchain

  • Experience in a cloud computing platform and the associated automation patterns they provide

  • Experience in production systems design including High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Performance, Efficiency, and Security

  • Experience in Big Query

  • Experience in a NoSQL database

  • Experience in query optimization and troubleshooting

  • Experience in effective data modeling within both SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Understanding of REST and effective web service design

  • Experience with Machine Learning concepts and best practices

  • Experience in Marcov modeling and its application in ML frameworks

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

  • Ability to communicate issues and recommend solutions in a timely manner to Management.

  • Strong decision making abilities.

  • Experience developing new application systems for production.
