Home Depot SENIOR MANAGER PRODUCT ENGINEERING in Atlanta, Georgia
The Senior Manager Product Engineering will lead people to drive engineering programs, engineering processes, and stakeholder alignment. Responsible for demonstrating leadership, great interpersonal skills and manage a team of Product Engineers. In addition to leading and managing an engineering team, this leader will also be accountable for delivering compliant products on time to clearly defined regulatory requirements, safety standards, industry best practices and Home Depot performance standards. This role will collaborate with third party testing facilities to meet all relevant buying agreements, and purchase orders. Strategic alignment of the Engineering team by functional area with the Global Engineering organization is critical to success. This is a senior leadership position expected to drive flawless execution in product engineering.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
20% - Decision Making: Makes reasonable and timely decisions under difficult and/or urgent circumstances that address root causes of problems.
20% - Leadership: Lead THD SSC Product and Engineering team in alignment with company culture and values and also ensure accountability.
20% - Plan and Align Work: Plan, align and allocate engineering work for the engineering team. Oversee and ensure programs are executed effectively.
15% - Customer Service: Manage and strive to improve external service provider technical and business relationships to ensure compliance to relevant product and regulatory compliance.
15% - Staffing and Development: Hire and develop talent in mechanical, electrical, wood, textile product engineering priciples. Coaching, training, creating continuous improvement, and monitor team performance providing regular feedback.
10% - Collaborate: Provide interface and coordinate related functional groups regarding product and packaging engineering programs and initiatives: sourcing, quality, fulfillment and finance. In addition to the functional groups, the SR Manager also coordinates with the Product Engineering team in other THD business units and Global Sourcing offices on engineering strategy and execution.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Typically reports to Sr Director Product Engineering.
Works in a team environment with direct responsibility for providing the resources and talent to meet the goals of the team.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Environment: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel: Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Education Required: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 7+ years
Physical Requirements: Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
Experience in product design and costing
New product development of consumer packaged goods from concept through production
Management of third party resources (ID firms, engineering firms, third party software)
