Home Depot Laboratory Manager in Atlanta, Georgia

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for managing and operating the Home Depot Engineering Laboratory. The manager will assign and track all testing, ensure testing is conducted on schedule, and adheres to written protocol. The manager is responsible to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) which maintain a safe, professional environment in accordance with State and Federal regulatory requirements and maintain proper accreditation as required for Testing Laboratories.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

40% Manage the laboratory and maintain standard processes and equipment capabilities

30% Provide testing services for THD

20% Provide testing expertise to customers of the laboratory

10% Identify cost-out opportunities in existing products and/or processes

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Position reports to Sr Director Product Engineering

Number of Direct Reports - 10

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Environment: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion.

Travel: Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years

Physical Requirements: Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory experience leading laboratory personnel and working with outside testing agencies and certification groups.

Experience working in a manufacturing or third party testing company environment.

Experience working with vertically integrated manufacturers and/or working directly with suppliers who develop application specific products is desired.

New product development of consumer packaged goods from concept through production would be helpful.

Experience in writing standard test procedures, work instructions and/or functional specifications is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Proficient in the use of measurement tools such as caliper, micrometer and scales.

Experience working in cross functional teams.

Proficient with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Demonstrated manufacturing knowledge and experience in areas of paper, plastics and metals for retail products.

Manufacturing knowledge and experience with glass, wood, textiles and Printed Circuit boards are a plus.
