Home Depot Data Analyst, Space Optimization in Atlanta, Georgia

POSITION PURPOSE

The Data Analyst - Space Optimization will perform data analysis and presentation of varying scope across product items, categories, and departments, using both general tools (e.g. SQL, MS Excel, Tableau) and proprietary models/solutions developed by the team (SPOT solutions). This position will be responsible for understanding the variety of data sources, and extracting, evaluating, cleansing, integrating and analyzing multiple data components together to support analytics and modeling work. The Data Analyst – Space Optimization will be able to communicate the data analysis approach and results to peer teams and leadership. The role will support data scientists in applying machine learning and optimization models in various projects, testing and validating new models and modeling features. The role will collaborate with store planning, space planning, IT, and business partners, address their questions regarding data and model, and support requests on ad-hoc analytics.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

35% - Serve as a data/analytics resource on a cross-functional product team (work product includes, but not limited to: data mining/query writing; defining & documenting data/reporting requirements; conduct and approve testing for your product area, analyze complex problems, present data/findings in a meaningful and easily digestible

25% - Contribute to the definition of processes, selection of productivity tools, acquisition of data, knowledge sharing, and general use of data as a decision making tool

15% - Complete major projects on the road map for the Data Analyst discipline in accordance with respective product area road map

15% - Contribute to the improvement of data quality/integrity by participating in testing, defining test scripts, documenting workflows and data flows

10% - Ensure data needs are met in a timely and accurate manner for your assigned cross-functional product team and help keep designers/programmers/business users focused on delivering against the product road map

NATURE AND SCOPE

Reports to a Senior Manager within Merchandising

No direct reports, however, the position will be required to mentor others who have the need for assistance

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel of less than 10%

Additional Environmental Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 2 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about.

On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Located in a comfortable indoor area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Excel, Access

  • Working knowledge of Tableau

  • Working knowledge of presentation software (e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year of work experience in data analysis.

  • Experience with large-scale data analysis and a demonstrated ability to process data and develop automated scripts.

  • Experience with SQL, Google Big Query, R, Python, Matlab.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Excellent communicator in both verbal and written form.

Polished presentation skills, creating materials and presenting to various levels of management.

Big picture thinker able to operate effectively at 30,000 foot view, but also able to get into the details when necessary.
